2nd Annual Hemoglobal Fundraiser- Friday, September 23, 2005

Warmest thanks go out to all our supporters for their generosity on September 23rd for Hemoglobal's Second Annual Fundraiser. You helped to make a difference! Especially in the wake of last year's tsunami, these patients need your support more than ever. The event was a huge success with over 130 people in attendance including numerous members of the Toronto arts and medical community who enjoyed listening to talks by Shyam Selvadurai, Michael Ondaatje and Dr. Nancy Olivieri.

Hemoglobal's work provides medical equipment and other aspects of care to children with thalassemia in areas of Sri Lanka. This fundraiser has made a significant contribution towards making this goal a reality. Thanks for all your help and we look forward to seeing you at next year's event!

RARE READING BY MICHAEL ONDAATJE IN
A MAGICAL PARK SETTING A GREAT SUCCESS!

Saturday, September 18, 2004

Michael Ondaatje and Dr. Olivieri

Our fundraiser on September 18th, 2004 was a great success, with wonderful music, food and drink in a beautiful park setting -- and Booker Prize-winning author, Michael Ondaatje's reading of his poems and prose was the pinnacle of the event.

A very sincere thank you for the generous support of our recent fundraising efforts toward the costs of infusion pumps to administer life-saving medicine to children in Sri Lanka and India. Thank you for making it such an incredible evening.

Christine Mika is a photographer who is a generous supporter of our fundraising efforts in Sri Lanka and India.

"I photograph, using the digital medium in two ways; as a tool to document what I see or as an exploration of the medium and its ability to alter the content of what I see.

When being in a culture that is new to my experience, I observe things that are different from my usual environment. I see without visual intent and the photograph is the tool to document this novelty. Hence, the visual surface is superficially explored; I gaze through a window without deep understanding.

In my own environment, I use the digital medium to layer and collage; to juxtapose and separate visual images. Through this manipulation, I attempt to create visual images that express human emotions and the quest for the understanding of individual identity."
